A Prophet for Our Days
October 3, 2018 – The 23rd anniversary of the death of Dr. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira today was remembered in a very solemn way with a Mass at Lumen Propheta, in the presence of our dearest Monsignor.
“If a man passed his whole life in a cave, alone, praying and doing penance, he would not acquire as much merit as that which is acquired in only one Holy Communion. This is the value of one Holy Communion.”
(Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira)
The month of October is dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary and the Guardian Angels, and also remembers Saints of such greatness as St. Therese of the Child Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Teresa of Avila, etc. In a special way today, October 3, 2018, Heaven is celebrating, filling our hearts with gratitude, admiration, joy and faith; to render homage to the Prophet of our day, the Roman Catholic, Apostolic man, Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira. We remember the words of St. Therese – “I do not die, I enter into Life”.
Let us go back a little in time, to when Dr. Plinio had to travel to Europe, seeking support for the Catholic Cause: he used to leave letters to his dearest mother; letters that, however loving, as mentioned by Monsignor João Clá, in Chapter XII of the book Dona Lucilia, “… would it not be enough to exhaust what filial love he had to express to a mother?”
Msgr. João replies: “Perhaps, but when it came to Dona Lucilia, his benevolence inspired ever new words of affection and retribution.”
Take a look at one of Dr. Plinio’s letters on the occasion of his trip to Europe:
Manguinha of my heart,
How are you? I miss you immensely and wish to return right away to ‘Mother’s skirts.’. (…) Thousands of kisses, my love. Pray for me. From the son who requests a blessing and who certainly loves you MUCH MORE than you love him.
Plinio

“…. With her eyes turned to the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Dona Lucilia gave herself over wholeheartedly to her prayers for the best possible trip for him, entrusting her apprehensions to the Divine Redeemer…. “
There was such a consonance of Dona Lucilia’s soul with Dr. Plinio’s that there are not enough words to express it. Today, together in the Eternal Glory, they look upon all of us, their children.
And we, all of us in this family – the Heralds of the Gospel – are certain of having two mighty intercessors before Our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Lady, with all the Saints and Angels. Let us continually inspire ourselves with the pious life of Dona Lucilia, while, together with Dr. Plinio, we are caressed by such an extremely loving mother in these sweet and full words of Faith:
…. I continue steadfast in my litanies and Rosaries to my most beloved Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Blessed Virgin, both to whom I entrusted you at birth, and I have faith that the Divine Holy Spirit will always be in you; you well deserve it, beloved son! I close, sending you my blessings, many kisses and affectionate hugs,
From your mama,
Lucilia
Let us ask Dr. Plinio, especially today, October 3, 2018, for the gates of Heaven to open to us, granting us all the graces to be truly Roman Catholic, Apostolic men and women, soldiers of the army of Our Lady and inhabitants of the Reign of Mary. Let us also ask that, in time, we may all be together in Eternal Glory and in the presence of Dr. Plinio and Dona Lucilia.
“Although Dona Lucilia valued her son’s company so highly, her detachment led her to desire even more that he obtain the objectives for his trip.” (Dona Lucilia, Chapter XII)
